Rothwell's Shrewdoperator causes 28/1 upset

The Philip Rothwell trained Shrewdoperator gained an overdue first win at Cork today when scoring a 28/1 upset, on his 20th career start, in the Paddy Power Onside App Handicap Chase, winning under jockey Conor Maxwell.

Afterwards Rothwell said “I had a lot of confidence in him today because of the heavy ground and was hoping he’d run a big race.

“He had been placed in a few bumpers early in his career but was always well beaten and was just a little slow over hurdles as he is a big horse. He proper missed the last but stayed at it well. Oliver and Marie (Barden) are so good to me and are great great supporters and all their family love racing; I’d two winners for them at the start of the summer and it’s great to have another one now.”
