Out of the handicap and a 40-1 shot, Whitmore's first runner in Britain was in front until the third-last, making a mistake but hanging on to fourth behind Al Ferof.
Generally more effective on better ground and with a good record at the Irish summer festivals, Casey Top had finished second to Bob Lingo in the Galway Plate.
"There's not a bother on him, we were delighted with the run," said Whitmore, who runs a small team from near Enniscorthy in County Wexford.
"The winner, and the second (Walkon) are very good horses and the third (Nadiya De La Vega) has run well at Cheltenham before.
"It was the first time we had a runner over in England, and they looked after us like little lords, so we'd love to come back.
"I think he might have a break and come back for a race there in March, depending what the handicapper says.
"After that, you'd think about things like going back to Galway."
