Lingfield races today

Officials had expressed concern on Monday after checking conditions for a second time that afternoon.

But following an 7.30am assessment, the fixture was given the go-ahead, with the ground heavy all round on the turf track.

The one bumper is scheduled for the all-weather.

Clerk of the course Neil MacKenzie Ross said: "We had 1.2mm of rain overnight so I feel that we can manage that. There is the possibility of rain around this morning, possibly a heavy shower, but we were forecast that for 7am and that's not been the case so hopefully we have missed it.

"I think we will manage as long as we don't get hit with another six or seven millimetres, but it will be extremely testing ground, I've told all the trainers that, and we will be missing out two hurdles.''

Today's other UK meetings have been abandoned while Wednesday will also see a curtailed schedule with the tracks at Southwell, Fontwell and Wetherby all waterlogged.

Limerick is due to race tomorrow with the course reporting the ground as soft to heavy, heavy in places. The weather forecast is for a dry 24 hours.
