Fingal Bay ran out at the third last in the Harry Dutfield Memorial Novices' Chase at Exeter on Friday.

After running subsequent Newbury winner Dynaste a fairly close second at Cheltenham last time the King's Theatre gelding was sent off at prohibitive odds in this three-runner contest.

But Philip Hobbs' six year old jumped violently left throughout and punters who waded in at his SP of 1/12 will have been concerned from some way out.

Despite his waywardness he was still in front coming into the straight but when he had nowhere to jump left he ran out into the running rail giving Richard Johnson no chance.

That left Tom George's grey Chartreux in front and he landed an easy success from Ashborne Folly.
