His stable-mate, Happy New Year was bringing up the hat-trick at Punchestown last Sunday. For the remarkable Oliver McKiernan outfit, another budding track winner was emerging on the same afternoon, On The Shannon taking a divide of the 4yo maiden at the Louth Foxhounds point-to-point at Tattersalls Farm.

Roger Quinlan did the steering on this Presenting youngster, down the field in the Tattersalls Ireland Sales Bumper at Fairyhouse last April.

On The Shannon made all and he was strongly pressed when getting in too close to the second last.

It was difficult to be sure but he may have been getting the upper hand on Roy Wilson's nicely-bred Southsea Island, when that one came down at the last.

On The Shannon has quite an eye-catching 'page' himself and the relation to Nancy Myles was left to beat the newcomer, Say It Again, by seven lengths.

Said to be green still, you'd imagine the only way is up for On The Shannon. (EM)
