Ruby Walsh recorded a fabulous four-timer at Navan this afternoon when Matsukaze took the two-mile handicap hurdle in some style.

Tony Martin's charge was making his first start in handicap company having hinted at ability in three maiden runs.

He opened up 7/2 on track but proved easy to back and was eventually sent off a 9/2 shot.

Walsh waited in rear on the Norwich gelding before creeping into contention in the straight. Rocky Wednesday hit the front travelling well before two out but Matsukaze was being nursed closer and swept past him going to the final flight.

The winner pulled clear on the run-in to record a comprehensive seven-length success.

“The penny has only dropped with him. He was very keen and free in his maidens,” revealed Martin.

“The small field suited him today as he was able to drop in and switch off. Ruby was excellent on him.”

It was a quick double for Martin, who had also saddled Wingtips in the preceding contest.

Walsh had landed the feature on Pont Alexandre for Willie Mullins and also the opener on Boston Bob for the champion trainer.

Stan James updated their betting for the jockeys title with Davy Russell now a 4/6 shot from 4/7 and Walsh 11/10 from 5/4.
