Donald McCain admits he might be forced to run Overturn in the williamhill.com Novices' Chase at Kempton on December 27 even if the ground is testing.

The remarkable dual purpose performer made a scintillating start to his career over fences at Sandown last month but has swerved several subsequent engagements because of soft ground.

If he does run on Thursday he could potentially clash with Simonsig but the trainer is keen to get more experience into his charge ahead of the spring festivals.

"I'm desperate to run him. He's in at Kempton the day after Boxing Day and maybe we're getting to the stage where we have to go if it's good to soft with soft patches or even soft. I need to speak to his owner but we need to get the practice in. You can't go to the big days cold," the trainer told Racing UK.
