Trainer Charles Byrnes rarely leaves Limerick without a winner over the Christmas period and his Our Vinnie landed a thrilling renewal of the featured Grade 3 Liberty Insurance Novice Hurdle.

Ridden by Niall 'Slippers' Madden made the running on Our Vinnie and while both himself and Pride Of The Parish were on the only pair in contention from three out, they produced a thrilling finish.

Pride Of The Parish moved past Our Vinnie after that rival pecked on landing after the final flight and appeared to have Our Vinnie's measure on the run-in. However Madden refused to give up on Our Vinnie who eventually rallied very late to get his head in front 'on the nod' at the line, for a short head win.

Byrnes was at Leopardstown but Madden did later say “Our Vinnie is very genuine and tough. He pecked at the back of the last but picked up well on the run-in.”
