Backinthere provided Cork trainer Eamonn Gallagher with his first winner under rules when landing a Limerick maiden hurdle back in November, and she doubled his tally when returning to the winners’ enclosure after the McCarthy Insurance Group Mares Handicap Hurdle.

The eight-year-old, won also won a point-to-point at Ballybunion nearly three years ago, touched down in front three out in this two and a half mile event.

Adrian Heskin’s mount was soon in control, and kept on well on the run-in to beat fellow 10/1 chance Special Token by four and a half lengths. Get Off The Stage (14/1) was a further three quarters of a length adrift in third.

Gallagher said, “I was expecting that. She got bogged down at Limerick last time but still ran well enough, and we made more use of her today. The key to her is soft ground and she’s tough out.

“I’m always saying she’ll go over fences and more than likely she’ll go over fences now. I didn’t get any more horses after she won the last day but hopefully I might now!"
