Harry Fry says Rock On Ruby will go to Sandown in early February for a final prep race ahead of the defence of his StanJames Champion Hurdle crown.

In his latest blog for StanJames.com, Fry said: "Rock On Ruby will be entered on the 2nd of February at Sandown for the Contenders Hurdle and if the ground comes up good or good to soft then he'll be running there as it gives us six weeks before the Champion Hurdle. And if it's still very testing or frozen off, we've got the Kingwell at Wincanton two weeks later.

"He's very much on target for one of those, he's in great form. The International run has brought him on a ton and we couldn't be happier with him."

Like his former boss Paul Nicholls, Fry has used the time after New Year to administer flu jabs to his horses so he does not have any runners this week.

Fry has gone a month without a winner after six victories early on in his first season proper as a trainer. But he is happy with the way his horses are running and said: "As we stand, 20 out of a total 35 have finished in the first four so I couldn't have asked for much more.

"We've had a bumper winner, a few hurdle winners and a chase winner as well. I haven't managed to nail a handicap just yet so we'll be keen to do that but otherwise very pleased."
