Frankel has been confirmed as the highest-rated horse in the history of form analysts Timeform after the publication of their 'global rankings' for 2012.

With a mark of 147, he was rated 11lb clear of Champion Australian sprinter Black Caviar on 136. The Sir Henry Cecil-trained colt was awarded his rating following his breathtaking 11-length win in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot back in June.

In the essay on Frankel in Timeform's Racehorses of 2012 book, to be published in March, he is described as being "like a chainsaw going through balsa wood".

Timeform may have had their say but the final World Thoroughbred rankings, published by the British Horseracing Authority and the international handicappers, will confirm Frankel's final official rating on Tuesday.
