Ahead of today's meeting, Thurles remains soft to heavy (6.1mm of rain in the past 24 hours).

Dundalk race tomorrow and it's described as standard there.

The weather forecast warns of heavy rain later today with showers tomorrow.

The ground at Limerick meanwhile is currently heavy. They race at Greenmount Park next Wednesday. In the interest of safety the limit in all races has been reduced to 14 horses.

A decision on whether the inside or main hurdle and bumper track is to be used at Limerick next Wednesday will be taken before declaration time.

GRAND NATIONAL - The Northern Challenge

The Sue Smith-trained Auroras Encore was the last northern-trained horse to win the Grand National back in 2013 but recent victories for that part of the country have been thin on the ground since the likes of Lucius, Rubstic and Hallo Dandy in the late 70s early 80’s showed that steeplechasing was in a healthy state north of the Watford Gap with the likes of Gordon W Richards, Denys Smith, Arthur Stephenson, Peter Easterby and Jimmy Fitzgerald capable of holding their own against their southern and Irish counterparts.
