Stable staff appear to be the latest victims of the on-going recession as their allowance for working at Dundalk evening meetings has been slashed by over 50%.
Up to now stable staff travelling over 80km to the meeting received a payment of €110 but that figure has been dramatically cut to just €50.
Irish stable staff association chairman Bernard Caldwell said at Dundalk last night, "It seems pretty mean. Our members up to now have been more than co-operative.
"They have to turn out in all types of weather and work very unsociable hours. Some trainers were paying the allowance but some were not. This is a huge cut."
