Fontwell and Towcester go ahead

This afternoon's English fixtures at Fontwell and Towcester will go ahead as scheduled.

Fontwell course officials had intended to hold a precautionary inspection at 8am, but this was not necessary after a frost-free night.

Overnight temperatures dipped to just 0.9C, with the going soft, good to soft in places.

This afternoon's meeting at Towcester has also received the go-ahead after course officials passed a morning inspection.

Frost had been a potential stumbling block at the Northamptonshire circuit, but overnight temperatures were not too severe.

The going is now good to soft, soft in places.

Clerk of the course Robert Bellamy said: "It was 1C first thing, which was obviously a relief, and things are going to improve throughout the day.

"It's hardly going to be a warm day, but the main thing is we are racing."
