Mallowney turned the Paddy Power Mobile App Handicap Hurdle into a procession at Naas this afternoon.

Having won the early battle for the lead Tim Doyle's gelding had plenty of challengers pressing from the fourth last fight.

Davy Russell had plenty up his sleeve on the 11/4 shot (5/1 in morning), however, and his mount skipped clear after the second last.

He didn't need to hit top gear as he flew the last and cantered home for a facile seven-length success over Enchanted Forest

Beneficial Spirit was sent off the 9/4 favourite but after having every chance turning in he faded in the closing stages to finish eighth.

“He ran very well in the Boylesports Hurdle (at Leopardstown last month) and only for a mistake at the last he would have been placed,” said Doyle afterwards.

“We won't be too hard on him this season and I'm really looking forward to going chasing with him in the autumn.

“He should make a smashing chaser. He's got a lovely pedigree and is from the same family as Boston Bob.

“He's only really started to mature into a good horse recently. He had a wind-op after Galway which seems to have made a big difference to him.”

It was a quick double on the card for Russell, who had also landed the preceding race on Sweeney Tunes
