Encke remains firmly on course for the Palmerstown House Estate Irish St Leger at the Curragh on September 14 after delighting connections in a racecourse gallop over the weekend.

The five-year-old shattered Camelot's attempts at the Triple Crown when landing the St Leger at Doncaster in 2012, but missed last season due to the drugs scandal surrounding disgraced trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni.

Encke ran a fine race upon his return from a near two-year absence when second in the Glorious Stakes at Goodwood earlier this month and new trainer Charlie Appleby has been thrilled with the progress his charge has made since then.

He said: "He had a racecourse gallop on Saturday and I was very happy with him.

"All being well, we're still aiming towards the Irish St Leger and we're looking forward to it.

"We couldn't be happier with him at the moment."
