Tom Taaffe's smart chaser Argocat will not return to the racecourse until the new year.

The six-year-old enjoyed a good end to his last campaign, winning the Red Mills Chase at Gowran Park before running a fantastic race to finish third behind Silviniaco Conti and Dynaste in the Betfred Bowl at Aintree.

He was unable to make an impact on his final appearance in the Punchestown Gold Cup at the end of April and his trainer is in no rush to get him back on the track.

Taaffe said: "Argocat will hopefully be back in January. We've had no problem with him. We're just in no hurry."

The Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning trainer has not yet had a winner this season, having saddled just a handful of runners, but is happy with the string of horses he has in his care.

"The team is building up nicely and we're looking to the spring with most of them," said Taaffe.

"We're happy with how things are going."
