Conor Hoban rode his first winner in the Aga Khan silks when getting Dalewari home to justify favouritism in the www.dundalkstadium.com Nursery Handicap.

Michael Halford 's stable jockey Shane Foley missed tonight's action as he's suspended, so Hoban stepped in to the breach on Dalewari and the Mayo man earned his fee on the Desert Style colt.

The three times previously raced 7/4 market-leader wasn't great away from the gates but Hoban soon had the juvenile up there.

Favourite backers certainly would have been worried in the final quarter mile but Dalewari eventually clicked fully into gear and he was three parts of a length up on outsider Tomorrow Morning (came home well from the back) at the line.

Only about three and a quarter lengths covered the first nine home here.

Halford enthused in the aftermath: "He's a lovely straight-forward colt. He's lazy and still green."

The Copper Beach Stables operator then reflected: "Conor said when he caught hold of him in the straight he was only doing enough, but he was always confident of getting there.

"He'll be a grand horse next year and it's nice to win a two-year-old race with him. There is not a whole lot left here for him.

"When the penny drops he'll be a horse for a mile to ten furlongs next season." (GC & EM)
