Aspen Belle I felt going to Tipperary she was a little short (of work) so the gallop down the back straight didn't do her any harm!. She is highly strung and is difficult and only that my son Jack gets on so well with her that we wouldn't have got as far as we have. She obviously loves this place and we have her in at Sligo on Tuesday. It is a 0-70 fillies handicap and it is not ideal that she will be running with 10st on her back but I'd imagine the reaction she'll get from the handicapper will force out hands to run her. It was probably as safe ground as we could get away with and ideally we wanted the heavens to open tonight but it was lovely and safe and Killian said that was as good as she has ever been.

Come September She's owned by a syndicate with Andrew Nolan's wife and a couple of Kilkenny lads involved in her. They sent her to me last year and I thought she was a lovely filly but just a little bit backward,. They were lovely patient owners and let me take my time with her. We targeted this race about a month ago. She's a nice filly and I think her and the second are two nice fillies for first time out fillies. The two of them quickened up well to the line. She quickened away and then Billy said she just idled a bit.

Miss O Connor she's a lovely filly and was very green there. She was a nice filly last year but had a little muscle problem behind so we gave her a break. The man that bred her leased her to Ray (McSharry) and we're delighted that she won. She's very very smart. We don't know where we'll go from here, we thought she might be placed today as there was a lot of word for a lot of horses in it. Hopefully now she keeps thriving and we get a bit of luck.

Njord we were delighted to get in (as reserve) and it was another bonus getting the draw. What worried Robbie was that he was slow out in Cork and he was slow out here again today but Robbie got a great 'possy' and he was delighted. He said he's just a very relaxed horse to ride, you can wake him up and switch him off. He's still green and he got unbalanced and knocked himself there. I'll go to the calendar now, see what's there and try and keep creeping up the handicap. Hopefully there's more to come. He doesn't so much at home, he's one of those laid back horses and just does what he has to do. Until we keep going to the track we're not sure how much more there is there. Robbie said he'd improved a lot since his Cork run and if he just keeps going that way there's a little bit more in him.

Handsome Maverick Ruaidhri Tierney (agent) said that this lad (John Shinnick) is very good and that Ger Lyons considers him to be decent. I said 'on your word and on Ger Lyons word I will try him'. It was well worthwhile. He did everything I asked of him which was to get him clear over on the stands' side at all costs because he just won't travel with horses around him. Of course he drifted over closer to the rails in the last 100 yards. He was there where it counted. 33/1 down to 12s - somebody must have backed him, whoever they were!. Please God you'll see him tomorrow week in the Curragh - I think they have a 45-70 over six (furlongs) which will suit him again. I took the blinkers off him today and decided we will see what we have and he did everything we asked of him. I'd be very confident he might go in again because I think he has a bit more ability. He's a half-brother to Ducky Mallon who has won seven (races). The family is decent.
