Anticipation builds for Wednesday’s Visit Qatar Sussex Stakes at Goodwood as Field Of Gold headlines a high-class field in pursuit of another prestigious Group One victory.
Field Of Gold Poised to Emulate Sire Kingman in Sussex Stakes
Field Of Gold stands out among the 11 confirmations for the Visit Qatar Sussex Stakes. Trained by John and Thady Gosden, the colt has mirrored the early-season route of his sire Kingmanâfinishing narrowly in the 2000 Guineas before dominant wins in the Irish Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes.
Field Of Gold is a 4-9 favourite with Coral and will be ridden by William Buick, stepping in for the suspended Colin Keane. Just as Kingman conquered his elders in the 2014 edition of this race, Field Of Gold will attempt to do the same this Wednesday.
The Gosdens and Juddmonte have also confirmed Lockinge Stakes winner Lead Artist though he’s not expected to run against his stablemate. A potential pacemaker, Qirat has been supplemented for £70,000 and may assist in setting up the race for Field Of Gold.
Ballydoyle and Rivals Add Depth to Star-Studded Line-Up
Aidan O’Brien has left in five horses, including Henri Matisse the French Guineas winner who was runner-up to Field Of Gold at Royal Ascot. He also keeps Serengeti The Lion In Winter Exactly and older contender Diego Velazquez in contention.
Other notable names include Docklands (Harry Eustace) and Rosallion (Richard Hannon), who were separated by a nose in last month’s Queen Anne Stakes. The global flavour continues with Carl Spackler a multiple Grade One winner in the U.S. who finished sixth in the Queen Anne on debut for Australian trainer Ciaron Maher.
