Frankie John He is a lovely horse and was always going to be a chaser. He hasn't done any schooling since Galway, but I thought he didn't need to. Dan gave him a lovely ride and let him warm into the race. The Drinmore was always in my head for him, but he had to go close or win today to do that. We have the horse by default as he returned to us after initially being sold, but worse things than that have happened. He didn't have the best campaign over hurdles as the Martin Pipe Hurdle at Cheltenham had been his aim, but he missed it due to a dirty scope. He then finished fourth in a Grade 1 at Aintree and got a 10lb penalty. It is exciting to have him for this season, and I think 2m4f is spot on for him. |

She Was The One She had a couple of nice runs and a lovely run (when second) in a point-to-point as well,. It was initially the late Hugh Mulryan who owned her, and I asked was it ok if he sold her to stay in my yard, to owner John Mahon. I was talking to Liam (Mulryan, Hugh's father) this morning and told him to back her, so I hope he did. She is improving, I've always liked her and hopefully she has a good future over jumps. |

Meriden She has been busy with racing, but it was a big drop in grade. She was entitled to do that although we didn't know if we had pushed the boat out too far today by running her too much. It was me who wanted to run as she has been so well at home, and to be fair to Patrick (O'Brien) and Paul (Shanahan), they went along with it. Chris had a plan to be forward and to use the railing, as it is a front-runners track and she also has a tendency to lean left-handed. Once she bagged the rail, she was good and straight. Initially, we thought she would just win at a lower level, but she has kept stepping up all season. This morning, I entered her for a Group 3 at Saint-Cloud in October, so has that entry and an entry in a mares' sale at the end of December. We don't want to lose her, but if she makes money for her connections, that's good business. |
