It’s not very often you get to win two €100,000 handicaps one after another,. He’s a lovely horse, very professional. We thought this was his trip and we fancied him, we thought he’d run a big race. We thought in the Curragh that he idled a little bit in front. A couple of people were saying that some horses were finishing well but I just think he idled a little bit. We made sure that we had him coming home today. He gave him a great ride and it was a good bit of placing by Ed (brother). We’ll see what the handicapper does. I’d love to bring him to Galway. It would be a tough feat but I think he would suit the place. He’s got gate speed and stays. He’ll handle a bit of ease in the ground as well if there is a slight ease there. A big thank-you to Mick Halford too, we were very lucky to get him. His mum passed away yesterday.

Mick (Halford) recommended us and I’ve known Paul Rooney for a long time. He’s one of the real gentlemen in racing. Slieve Binnian ran really well on Guineas weekend, and then we put him away for this. He could be a Galway Mile horse and will need to go up a few pounds to get in, so we’ll see what the handicapper does with him. I’d like to have a go at Galway as he jumps smart and travels well. He hasn’t had many goes at a mile. He took a while to get going the last day but came home well and sharpened up a lot from it.

Time will tell how good they were, it looked a very weak race on paper. He had a lovely run in Gowran Park, he just got a bit stuck in the ground that day. On the better surface today, I thought he would come on. That sort of run sharpened him up too. He just found the surface too slow that day. On that surface he was grand and very straightforward. He got the trip well and you'd have to be happy with him. I'm delighted to get a winner for Paul Rooney, we have had a quietish time for him there and he is a great supporter of ours. I'll get him home and see what he is like. We always felt he would make a better three-year-old. Ronan said he had matured a lot now. We'll see what the next few weeks brings.
