Down Royal Mon, 28th Sep, 2026  Pillar Of Hope he had a nice run in Galway, but we thought he was a wee bit ‘short’ after it. He ran then in Punchestown and the trip was a wee bit short for him, but ran a nice race. The ground suited and he does all his work at the back-end of the year; everything worked out alright. He will probably go for the November Handicap (Naas) now if he can sneak in at the bottom of the weights. Patrick lives beside me and was down on Saturday morning riding out for us. I like giving the young apprentices support.

Listowel Thu, 24th Sep, 2026  Mart Lane This is my second winner from three runners this week and we stepped this horse up in trip today, which was the key to him. I bought him along with a few more with Flat staying pedigrees, as a yearling and while he is out of a Pivotal mare and you'd think he has speed, got done for toe the last day. We stepped him up in trip today, he jumped great and while he is low-grade at 108, is exciting as I think he can climb the ranks. He might even stay three miles. This is my second horse named 'Mart Lane' and is the third one in total. It is a lane just off the N11 after leaving Leopardstown racecourse, and was near where Seamus McGrath trained Arc winner Levmoss. I love the name and the last lad didn't really work out, although he did win a maiden hurdle.

Cork Sun, 30th Aug, 2026  Magny Cours On her run in Leopardstown she showed what she’s capable of, especially when she’s able to get her toe in,. It’s brilliant when a plan works out. It’s been a long wait on the weather. I was hoping that it would be worth it and it was, it was more than worth it. I was saying to Ben when he came in that when you are going that easy it’s hard to sit.

Wexford Fri, 28th Aug, 2026  Boola Times We probably made too much use of him the last two days and didn’t think he got home both days, so we said we’d drop him out today,. They went plenty quick and it suited, he loved going through them. Sure he got there and he won, so we’re happy with that. We thought he needed to be handy the whole time and he didn’t. We said we’d take our time today, he travelled and they came back to him. He’s a nice horse, he works really well at home. He has been a bit disappointing on the track, but maybe this is just the right way to ride him.

Leopardstown Thu, 6th Aug, 2026  Ethical Diamond It was hard work but he got the job done. That'll bring him forward. He's in a few races in Ireland and England, but I think there's a nice prize in Kentucky Downs in September over a mile-and-a-half that we might go for. I think it's a million dollar race, so we might have a crack at that. It's a nice left-handed track, ground is usually as hard as iron. It's a track where Grabel won all those years ago (1990, with Mullins in the saddle). It was called the Dueling Grounds then, so we know the place.

Limerick Thu, 2nd Jul, 2026  Eastmore Danny rang asking for permission to ride the horse out wide as he had walked the track and said it was worth 20 to 30 lengths by keeping out. I think it suited the horse being ridden on his own as well, so he had a double benefit really. There was probably a false reading for today's result and it is the jockey who should get the (handicapper's) penalty!. Danny would have ridden a bit for me in the past and it is his first winner for me.

Limerick Thu, 28th May, 2026  Qaasid It was unlucky on Philip Byrnes as his horse went for the wing (of the second-last hurdle) and the two boys on his outside lost out. My horse lost his two hind shoes and that, without a doubt, happened at the second-last. This horse deserved to win as he was unlucky at Clonmel the last day when he put his foot in a hole and slipped up. He fractured ribs and everything in that fall, so today is his first day back. I'm tired talking about watering of tracks, but there is a difference in the ground today and that is why almost everyone is going wide. It is the owners' first winner with me so I'm delighted, as we had a few quid on him in Clonmel. I go over to London once in a while to meet the syndicate and when we meet for a pint, it usually takes three days!
