The Stewards considered a request from Mr J. Conheady, rider, to allow him to carry 3lbs overweight on Dazzlers Day which he also trains. Mr Conheady stated that he knew at the time of the publication of the weights for this race that he had 10lbs to lose and was satisfied that he would lose 8lbs therefore he declared himself at the close of declarations to carry 2lbs overweight but despite a determined attempt, he missed his target by 1lb. Having considered all the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that exceptional circumstances prevailed and therefore allowed Mr J. Conheady to ride at 3lbs overweight. They did, however, fine Mr J. Conheady €150 for being in breach of Rule 195.

An extended handicap steeplechase for five yrs old and upwards (130 = 12st)
Weights - Top weight in the original handicap and; after time of declarations shall not be less; than 12st In accordance with HRI Directive; 3 (i) (a), the maximum stipulated weight in; this race is 12st and the minimum stipulated; weight is 10st 4lb
Penalties - Winner of a steeplechase after calculation of the handicap to carry 4lb extra for each such steeplechase won. Any horse rated above 130 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 12st. Subsequently, the excess over 130 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any five year old rated above 130 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
