he's been very consistent and he'll be going to America later in the year, as his owner (Colvin Ryan) is American, and the plan is for him to run over jumps there. We'll look at giving him another run here first and I'll look at a handicap with him. He deserved it as he's tough and consistent. He ran a good race in Galway when he was third and I thought he'd take a bit of beating here today. He did it nicely and I'm delighted as it's my first winner for the owner. D K Weld, trainer

The Stewards interviewed G.F. Carroll, rider of Eagle Crag, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3.(f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards suspended G.F. Carroll for 1 raceday
