Rebecca Menzies is planning to head straight to the Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood with her star juvenile Adonius .
The Soldier’s Call colt is unbeaten in three starts to date, with two wins in eight days at Musselburgh followed by a dominant front-running victory in the Lily Agnes at Chester’s May meeting.
While the Roodee runner-up Hickory Lad went on to win the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom, connections of Adonius resisted the temptation to run at Royal Ascot and also sidestepped potential Listed options at home and abroad last week.
Patient Approach Ahead of Molecomb Target
Menzies said: “He was entered in the Dragon Stakes at Sandown and we also looked at Listed race in France on Saturday, but we just decided to wait and the plan at the moment is to go straight to Goodwood with him.
“He’s in good form and was full of himself this morning. The Molecomb is only four weeks away (July 29) and we just felt with the rest of the season in mind we’d be better waiting so there’s plenty of petrol left in the tank for the second half of the season.
“Hopefully he’s still improving and having been part-bought by some American-based owners (Riverdee and West Paces) since Chester, the dream is he’ll end up at the Breeders’ Cup at the end of the year.”
Menzies added: “He’s grown and filled out since his last run and we hope and believe there’s still more improvement to come.
“He obviously showed a lot of speed at Chester and you’d like to think a quick five furlongs at Goodwood should suit him really well, so we’ll keep our powder dry for that.”
