Trainer Gordon Elliott runs smart sort El Cairos in today’s Galway Hurdle and is hoping the he may still be unexposed. Chaseldale lad and Ndaawi also represent Cullentra - here are Elliott’s thoughts from our latest visit to the yard.
Gordon Elliott’s thoughts on his Galway Plate contenders
I think he’s the type of horse that could come back after some great races and be well handicapped again. He’s been a little bit disappointing, not because he’s done anything wrong, but he just hasn’t done what we thought he would do.
I think a race like the Galway Plate could suit him. He’s in good form, and I imagine Jack can get it right. Jack has often told me he’s never sat on a work horse like him; his speed and everything about him are exceptional. He’s still working as well as he ever has.

I’m hoping that when he came to us, he didn’t get much of a break. He came straight from the sales and straight into training, so he’s had a few months off now and has freshened up. We’re happy with him and looking forward to running him.
Jack will ride him.
You know, I’ll probably claim off Casheldale Lad at the top. Nadawi, if he runs, has a lot of weight.
It’s a wonderful race when you look at it; there are a lot of exposed horses in it, and I’m hoping El Cairos might still be a little unexposed.
