The Punchestown Festival rolls on towards the weekend with the penultimate day of the annual showpiece event on Friday set to be headlined by the Boodles Champion Hurdle.

The Cheltenham Festival winner Golden Ace is bound for Ireland where Jeremy Scott's mare will take on State Man and Constitution Hill once again in a potential two-mile thriller.

There is also the Grade 1 Alanna Homes Champion Novice Hurdle (6.05) ahead of the big race at 6.40 as part of an eight-race offering from peerless Punchestown and we've put together a day four accumulator.

  • Elliott's Yellow Clay the one to beat

The Grade 1 Alanna Homes Champion Novice Hurdle over an extended two-and-a-half miles will feature nine runners and THE YELLOW CLAY for Gordon Elliott and Final Demand for Willie Mullins are jostling for favouritism.

They finished second and third respectively in the Turners Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham in March behind outstanding British novice The New Lion for the Dan Skelton team.

The Yellow Clay had won all four of his hurdles starts prior to that Cotswolds effort, including the Grade 1 Lawlors Of Naas in January in fine style.

He handles all ground conditions but it is encouraging that his Down Royal hurdles bow came on good to yielding, so the drying ground is set to suit.

Final Demand also suffered his first hurdles defeat at Cheltenham but there is more depth to The Yellow Clay's form and he had him well covered that afternoon, so is taken to uphold the placings and win this.

Henderson's star turn to rise from the floor

When CONSTITUTION HILL brushed aside Lossiemouth in the Christmas Hurdle after a year off it seemed as though Nicky Henderson's top-notch two-miler was going to use this season to earn the crown of greatness that was perhaps prematurely bestowed on him in some quarters.

Few could have predicted his visits to both Cheltenham and Aintree this spring would have ended with the Seven Barrows superstar on the floor.

Despite those mishaps, it remains true that no horse has beaten Constitution Hill when he has stayed on his feet. Connections believe that concentration was a key factor with their star horse essentially betrayed by complacency in those spills.

In that case, his mind is sure to have been focused by the tumbles he suffered on his last two starts.

He faces the Champion Hurdlers of the last two seasons. State Man surrendered the crown with the race at his mercy with a final flight fall that handed this year's prize to Golden Ace in a truly bizarre Cheltenham race seven weeks ago.

Constitution Hill will bring the house down at Punchestown with a win and he's fancied to restore the natural order in the two-mile hurdles pecking order.

Fiver Friday can provide a shock

Paul Traynor will be hoping for a big run from his mare FIVER FRIDAY in the Uniquely Novice Hurdle and he may get it.

She was above average on the Flat, rated 90, and made a winning start over timber at Naas (2m, good to yielding) with a comfortable success.

She went to Kelso afterwards for a novice event and came a long way clear with two older rivals who are both promising, but had to settle for third spot.

Runcok (Willie Mullins) and Naturally Nimble (Joseph O'Brien) are perhaps going to be too short in the betting for this contest and Fiver Friday has scope for improvement.

Liam McKenna takes off a handy 5lb in the saddle and was seen to excellent effect on Thanksforthehelp and Thisistheway at the track earlier in the week as he hit the frame. He might get to the top of the podium on Friday.
