As we bounce from one major Flat festival into another, it’s the ideal time to make a note of horses for your tracker ahead of the Irish Guineas Festival, the Epsom Derby meeting and Royal Ascot.

Our Irish Angle team of journalist Johnny Ward, former jockey-turned-coach Paddy Flood and pundit Emma Nagle have served up three horses who caught their eye over the past week.

I'm going to pick Controlla here, what a debut effort in the Coolmore Sprint at Naas.

You can say that all of these horses were disappointing, and given the effort of Victorious on debut, Controlla came up on her debut at level weights and practically beat her.

David Egan was half-minding her in the closing stages. She must be a really, really top-class prospect.

She put her head down, really battled on and I absolutely can't wait to see where she turns up next. It's going to be fascinating.

I'm going to stick with Henry de Bromhead, not one of his winners, a horse called Victory Tip.

He was second at Naas in a conditions race, stepping back from a mile and a quarter run last time in a Derby trial.

He won first time out, but if you watched that run, it was such an exceptional ride by Billy Lee. It was up the camber, the ground was horrible, and Billy jumped out and just threw the reins on his neck.

He set off last and came through the race like a knife through butter. I think I may have mentioned him before as a horse to follow but after his run I think he just looks like he's going to take two or three more runs before he's the finished article.

He rides a bit like that, he's big, he's strong, he's powerful, but mentally he's probably not there yet.

That run should really bring him on a lot, and even if he doesn't go to a mile and a quarter this year, he's a horse I think will get there eventually.

Emma Nagle

I liked Gavin Cromwell's winner of the delayed first at Navan on Saturday - Barrow Boy.

He's a half-brother to Snellen, who was an Ascot-winning two-year-old herself.

Quotes after the race suggested he was entered for the Windsor Castle. I thought he was really impressive.

Bayside Boy is just getting going as a sire now, and the race was won by his dad last year, who went on to win at Ascot on his next start.

It can historically be a fairly decent maiden, and he was really impressive.

He was well fancied to do it on his second start, and as a half-brother to a filly who liked Ascot plenty herself, he could be one to watch out for in a few weeks' time.
