We head to Galway for the fifth day of the week-long festival on the first day of August.

It is a combination of Flat and jumps racing throughout the course of the afternoon and we have plenty of high-class horses on show. Below is my Lucky15 selection for Friday’s action at Galway.

  • 17:30 - Sandor Clegane

A competitive looking handicap chase can go the way of SANDOR CELGANE is looking to gain his first win over fences. He has been runner-up on two occasions in this sphere, with arguably his best effort coming at the Cheltenham Festival when finishing behind Fact To File in a Grade 1 novice chase.

Last season he was campaigned over hurdles and ran respectably on many occasions without setting the world alight, or finishing with his head in front. A return to the larger obstacles should suit him. On the face of it this is a very good opportunity and he can land his first success over fences.

    5.302m. 6f. 111yds. 16 Declared.
    Guinness Beginners S'chase of €17,000.00 5-y-o plus

    18:35 - Fleetfoot

A typically competitive 1m4f handicap where a case can be made for many, especially with the last time winners in the field. FLEETFOOT boasts strong two and three-year-old form, and despite a few underwhelming efforts earlier on this year, returned to form last time out, hitting the front late on to win.

On the flat this was his first attempt over 1m4f, he saw the trip out really well and this was an improved effort from the son of Teofilo to get the better of Cloud Seeker late on, who he races against once more here. With further improvement to come over this trip for Fleetfoot, he can make this back-to-back victories.

    6.351m. 4f. 18 Declared.
    Guinness H'cap of €110,000.00 3-y-o plus

    19:10 - Jannah Star

JANNAH STAR has run three times under rules and been a beaten favourite on all three occasions, hardly a record to fill one with confidence. He has, however, been coming up against better horses than what he is facing here on the known form on offer, and a repeat of his previous efforts should be good enough to land the spoils.

There are some unknown quantities in the form of the unraced horses, but allowing for these he should prove too good and can find himself in the winners circle after the race.

    7.101m. 4f. 10 Declared.
Guinness Irish EBF (Fillies) M'dn of €17,000.00 3-y-o plus

    20:40 Galway - Lagoon Nebula

The last selection comes in the lucky last and it is a horse who has been showing well in the UK of late who can win. LAGOON NEBULA has been showing well over slightly further and a slight drop in trip is likely to benefit the relatively lightly raced four-year-old with her being slightly stretched over 2m most recently.

The form of the previous two races she has contested is of a fair level, and the winner last time has franked this, albeit over hurdles. Should she put her best foot forward she can gain a first win on the flat.

    8.401m. 6f. 14yds. 16 Declared.
    Hop House 13 H'cap of €17,000.00 3-y-o plus
