We head to Galway for the fifth day of the week-long festival on the first day of August.
It is a combination of Flat and jumps racing throughout the course of the afternoon and we have plenty of high-class horses on show. Below is my Lucky15 selection for Friday’s action at Galway.

17:30 - Sandor Clegane
A competitive looking handicap chase can go the way of SANDOR CELGANE is looking to gain his first win over fences. He has been runner-up on two occasions in this sphere, with arguably his best effort coming at the Cheltenham Festival when finishing behind Fact To File in a Grade 1 novice chase.
Last season he was campaigned over hurdles and ran respectably on many occasions without setting the world alight, or finishing with his head in front. A return to the larger obstacles should suit him. On the face of it this is a very good opportunity and he can land his first success over fences.

Formscan By Donal Murphy- While some of his form reads very well, Sandor Clegane hasn't managed to win a race in well over two years and looks a bit vulnerable here in against mostly younger rivals. One of three Willie Mullins-trained representatives in the line-up, JARRIVE DE MEE is the selection. The winner of a point-to-point when in the care of Donnchadh Doyle, he has gone from strength to strength since, and was a fine fourth when last seen in Grade 1 company at Punchestown. Previously in the ownership of Patrick Mullins, the champion amateur retains the ride. With Jack Kennedy aboard, What's Up Darling looks the pick of Gordon Elliott's four, while Millforce and Shantreusse (first time blinkers) are others capable of making an impact. Ross O'Sullivan saddles both Donnie Devito and Talk In The Park, with the pair successful at this week long Festival 12-months ago.

18:35 - Fleetfoot
A typically competitive 1m4f handicap where a case can be made for many, especially with the last time winners in the field. FLEETFOOT boasts strong two and three-year-old form, and despite a few underwhelming efforts earlier on this year, returned to form last time out, hitting the front late on to win.
On the flat this was his first attempt over 1m4f, he saw the trip out really well and this was an improved effort from the son of Teofilo to get the better of Cloud Seeker late on, who he races against once more here. With further improvement to come over this trip for Fleetfoot, he can make this back-to-back victories.

Formscan By Donal Murphy- Fleetfoot came out on top when many of these faced off in the Ragusa Handicap at the Curragh on Derby weekend. A never nearer fifth and running his best race in quite some time, MASHHOOR might now be able to reverse the form. Without a win in just over two years, a first time hood might help sweeten up this Johnny Murtagh-trained seven-year-old. Murtagh also saddles Cheeky Wink, with Ben Coen opting to partner this 96-rated bay, who was second in Listed company on her latest start. After a recent pipe opener at Killarney, it'll be interesting to see how Extensio fares, while top-weight Layfayette, who has nine wins to his name, is another leading hope. In truth, a case can be made for many others, with Cloud Seeker, Lope De Lilas, Acapulco Bay and Nans View all sure to have plenty of supporters.
An extended handicap for three years old and upwards that have run three or more times under any Rules of Racing up to and including 21st July, 2025, at least one of those runs having been over a distance of nine furlongs or more on or after 1st July, 2024 (105 = 10st)

19:10 - Jannah Star
JANNAH STAR has run three times under rules and been a beaten favourite on all three occasions, hardly a record to fill one with confidence. He has, however, been coming up against better horses than what he is facing here on the known form on offer, and a repeat of his previous efforts should be good enough to land the spoils.
There are some unknown quantities in the form of the unraced horses, but allowing for these he should prove too good and can find himself in the winners circle after the race.

Formscan By Alan Magee- JANNAH STAR has put together three solid efforts in maidens all over a similar distance and may now gain reward for her consistency. The daughter of Sea The Stars beat all bar It’s A Heartbeat at the Curragh and again filled the runner-up spot at Bellewstown last time. Eternal Spirit showed promise on both outings last year in maidens won by much better fancied stablemates including behind Minnie Hauk at Leopardstown last October, but it’s a concern that she hasn’t been seen since and blinkers are now applied. Ledecky makes plenty of appeal on pedigree being by Wootton Bassett out of a winning daughter of Sea The Stars, while Colpe Cross and Generous Support are others to consider.

20:40 Galway - Lagoon Nebula
The last selection comes in the lucky last and it is a horse who has been showing well in the UK of late who can win. LAGOON NEBULA has been showing well over slightly further and a slight drop in trip is likely to benefit the relatively lightly raced four-year-old with her being slightly stretched over 2m most recently.
The form of the previous two races she has contested is of a fair level, and the winner last time has franked this, albeit over hurdles. Should she put her best foot forward she can gain a first win on the flat.

Formscan By Alan Magee- PRALOGNAN is on a hat-trick following a hurdle win at Downpatrick and last time successfully reverted to the Flat over 1m4f at Newcastle. He remains on a competitive mark and may now have most to fear from Kool One. The Conor Maxwell-trained gelding won a similar 19-runner Navan handicap when last seen on the Flat start last October and has shown promise since over hurdles. Miss Gitana had Empress Alma behind when scoring at Tramore, while Preparations and Beautiful Chaos are others to consider. The picture is clouded by the fact that Glenroyal, Tassarolo, Lagoon Nebula, Atheneum and Dream Escape are all declared for the 5.40 here on Thursday.
