The Flat season is coming to a conclusion now and racing fans’ attention will be fully focused on the Jumps soon. Punchestown hosts a two-day fixture this week and the action on Tuesday looks thoroughly competitive.
We have seven races to look forward to and the puzzle gives us much to ponder. With that in mind, we’ve picked out an owner, trainer and jockey to follow across the card, which should give you a helping hand.
Trainer - Joseph O’Brien
The multi-talented Joseph O’Brien is equally adept at training jumpers as he is Flat horses, despite the fact that he focuses on the latter. He is therefore always one to watch and you might want to take note of his three runners across Tuesday’s card.
Ex-Flat recruit Cinammon Coco failed to win in six starts on the level for O’Brien, but he did manage to finish second over 1m4f. He has progressed with each of his three starts over hurdles so far and won easily at Down Royal last time out, making him the one to beat here.
Busselton was a winner over 4m1f at the Punchestown Festival so it’s intriguing that he drops significantly down in trip for this conditions hurdle. The ratings suggest he has a little bit to find but it would be unwise to rule out a big run from the eight-year-old.
O’Brien’s final representative on the card is Duke Silver, who returned to winning ways at Listowel last month. A 6lb rise doesn’t appear to be too unreasonable, so he should be in the mix once again.
Jockey - Darragh O’Keeffe

It’s been an excellent start to the season for Darragh O’Keeffe, who has a new level of responsibility towards Henry de Bromhead after Rachael Blackmore’s retirement.
He has hit the ground running and sits at the top of the jockeys’ championship with a healthy lead.
O’Keeffe heads to Punchestown for two rides on Tuesday, the second of which is Dairy Force for Liam O’Brien. The six-year-old remains very lightly raced over hurdles and managed to win nicely on his hurdling debut at Kilbeggan in June 2024.
We have only seen him twice since and was very unfortunate at Gowran recently, unseating O’Keeffe at the first after being badly hampered. There could be loads more to come from him and he remains very much of interest.
Andrew McNamara ’s Superficial makes his first start over hurdles in the opener and the three-year-old was last seen finishing third in a 1m3f handicap at Listowel.
We’ll learn plenty here, but his profile suggests he might be a useful recruit.
Owner - JP McManus
You can rarely escape JP McManus, as he’s the biggest owner in both Britain and Ireland and his famous green and gold silks will be represented with two runners on Tuesday.
Padraig Roche’s filly Watching The Clock is lightly raced and she was an impressive winner at Gowran when last seen. A 10lb rise will make life harder, but there’s scope for further improvement and she looks like one to keep on side.
Brazil is actually a Cheltenham Festival and he famously got the better of Gaelic Warrior in the 2022 Fred Winter.
His last win over hurdles came in a Grade 3 at Naas the following October, which is a concern, but it also wouldn’t be a surprise if he comes out on top.
