There is only one handicap at Punchestown on Friday to get our teeth into. The QuinnBet Novice Handicap Chase will be contested over two-and-a-half miles and is set to feature a bumper 20-runner field.

The race has been dominated by Willie Mullins in recent years, with the star trainer winning seven of the last 10 runnings.

We have analysed the race and picked out two selections, including a consistent performer who may be able to end his season on a high.

5.25 Punchestown - QuinnBet Novice Handicap Chase (Listed) (5yo+)

Moon D’Orange has had a fairly consistent season with a number of impressive performances, most notably winning at Cheltenham on Trials Day in January He had been going close earlier in the season but that performance was notable as he was dropping back in trip and was partnered with the jockey who will be riding him in this race, Sean Bowen, for the first time.

He showcased his ability on that occasion and while he was not perfect in his jumping, which nearly cost himself the race when diving at the last fence, he stuck to it and won well, suggesting that he is on the upgrade and one to be taken seriously.

However, it all came crashing down at the Cheltenham Festival where he looked out of sorts and seemed to be struggling even before making a mistake at the water jump. He was pulled up, looking to have lost all his momentum.

Moon D’Orange looked to be back to himself when last seen a fortnight ago, running strongly into fourth place at Cheltenham. Similar tactics were used to get him into contention after turning for home, however he was unable to reel in the leaders. It was a solid effort nonetheless and one that can be used as a platform for today’s outing.

His jumping will remain a concern as he does have the potential to make mistakes, but his consistent nature suggests that he will be involved at the business end of the race and trainer John C McConnell's runner looks set to go well.

Of those runners at bigger prices, Lisnagar Fortune from the Willie Mullins stable looks to have gone under the radar somewhat. He has not won in more than a year but a strong performance when he finished second at Leopardstown in March suggests there might be some fight left in him.

He is another who has issues with his jumping, often jumping high and slow over the fences, as seen last time out at Wexford where he looked laboured in his jumping.

However, he sticks to his task which suggests he has plenty of stamina. That should help him with the step up in trip to two-and-a-half-miles today and he could spring a surprise.

Selection: Win - Moon D’Orange; Each Way - Lisnagar Fortune
