Champion Trainer off the mark for 2012

Sun 1st Jan 2012, 14:02

Champion Trainer Willie Mullins got off the mark for 2012 with the win of Vast Consumption under Mullins’ nephew Emmet Mullins, in the Curran South East Cleaners Handicap Hurdle at Tramore today.

The daughter of Rudimentary failed to get her head in front in 16 previous runs but was recording her second career win, having been awarded a race (winner Pretty Happy weighed in light) at Clonmel in 2009.

Trainer Mullins was not present at Tramore but his mother Maureen Mullins was on hand to briefly mention “Vast Consumption won well at the end despite the ground being very heavy. Emmet kept him to the outside because the ground was terribly cut up on the inside.”

The win, at what could be descriped as the half-way point, was Mullins' 71st winner of the current season.
