General Macarthur foiled the gamble on Tony The Gent in the last at Navan, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Race.

Fourth in a Listed contest at the Curragh last Saturday, the Aidan O'Brien trained victor was sent off at 11/4 this afternoon.

Settled towards rear by Seamie Heffernan, the son of War Front took closer order from three furlongs out.

It looked like he might get caught in a pocket with two furlongs to go, but he got the room he needed over a furlong out. He was then soon ridden, sweeping to the front in the closing stages, before going on to score by three parts of a length.

Tony The Gent, who hit the front at the two furlong pole, had to settle for second under Colin Keane for Ger Lyons.

He was as big as 7/2 this morning, opening on-course at 5/2 before going off the clear 13/8 favourite. Al Mohalhal who was 6/4 last night, proved friendless with punters and he finished a well-beaten fifth at 3/1.

Seamie Heffernan said afterwards: "He just got away with the ground. He's a horse with plenty of ability, and has always showed it."
