Gigginstown House Stud, Noel Meade and Sean Flanagan combined for a double at Galway courtesy of Lieutenant Command in the Glenman Construction Maiden Hurdle.

Thirty five minutes on from their good success with Beacon Edge in the Grade Three Marlin Hotel Dublin, Supporting The National Breast Cancer Institute Hurdle, Lieutenant Command showed himself to be another promising jumper for the Tu Va team.

On his first outing since February, and on his initial attempt over flights, former ‘pointer’ Lieutenant Command, was shaded for favouritism by Coqolino

The pair had the extended two and a half miler to themselves from some way out with the victorious son of Kendargent eventually prevailing by two and three parts of a length.

“He’s taken a long time but he’s getting there,” said Meade.

“He’s huge and he jumped a couple like fences but it was very hard for him to get into a rhythm jumping those type hurdles.

“Sean was very impressed considering the way he jumped.”

A.W. Short, rider of Falco Du Sauzay (FR) trained by Liam Lennon, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount ran off the track and was pulled up.

D.J. McInerney, rider of Thebellsofshandon trained by M.F.Morris, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount ran free early on, hung right and failed to finish.
