Saturday has historically been a good day for punters at the Punchestown festival and here we’ve put together an each-way four-fold for day five.

The picks include an impressive winner from last time out and an eye-catcher in one of the handicaps.

  • 16:15 Punchestown - 3m1/2f Palmerstown House Estate Pat Taaffe Handicap Chase (Listed) - Majestic Force

This looks a wide-open affair but it might pay to side with a progressive lightly raced type and Henry de Bromhead's Majestic Force certainly ticks that box on her handicap debut. The mare won a 2m4f maiden hurdle at this venue on her first start on heavy ground and the form of her Cork second in December has worked out really well as the winner Spindleberry recently won a Grade 1 at Fairyhouse. She was unlucky not to win that day too and she landed the odds nicely in a Wexford beginners' chase last time over an extended 3m on decent ground. She could be well ahead of her opening mark.

16:50 Punchestown - 2m Ballymore Champion Four Year Old Hurdle (Grade 1) - Hello Neighbour

Hello Neighbour finished sixth behind shock 100/1 Triumph Hurdle winner Poniros at Cheltenham in March, with Lulamba a narrow second, but Gavin Cromwell's four-year-old wasn't seen to best effect on that occasion and is well worth another chance. A very good horse on the Flat, the son of Harzard made it two from two over hurdles when landing a Grade 1 at the Dublin Racing Festival and he would have finished closer in the Triumph but for a poor jump at the last.

17:25 Punchestown - 2m4&1/2f Lawlor's Of Naas Handicap Hurdle (Listed) - Jazzy Matty

The plan all season for Jazzy Matty was to win at the Cheltenham Festival for the second time and he achieved just that when landing the Grand Annual nicely off a mark of 135. Cian Collins' runner can race from a 17lb lower mark over hurdles here and he ran a solid race on softer ground than ideal last time when beaten less than five lengths into sixth behind Lord Erskine at Fairyhouse. The step up in trip on this better ground should be in his favour and he should go well.

    18:00 Cheltenham - 2m DAR Golf Construction (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race - It's Only A Game

Sporting the familiar Mulryan silks, a chance is taken on Martin Brassil's It's Only A Game to win on his debut under top amateur Derek O'Connor. The €68,000 foal was sold on for €160,000 at three and he has a nice pedigree being a half-brother to French 2m1f/2m3f hurdle winner Marta Kap. His dam was a French 2m1f-2m2f hurdle/chase winner, and was a half-sister to French 2m1f Listed hurdle winner Cutting Edge. There's no doubt this lad will improve in time but Brassil can ready one for a bumper and the market will reveal expectations.
