Pirate Jenny made it a quick-fire double for Ger Lyons and Colin Keane when coming home best in the six furlong fillies' handicap in the Curragh. Elanora showed terrific early speed to lead the way in this 17-runner sprint but the distress signals were apparent at the furlong marker.

She was swallowed up in the final 150 yards as the always-prominent Pirate Jenny burst through to hit the front.

The lightly-raced filly swept home by three parts of a length to justify 5/2 favouritism. Beautiful Sunshine kept on for second at 20/1 and was a neck in front of Affable (11/1 from 16s). Sceolan completed the placings at 25/1.

Lyons said: “To be black-type hunting we thought she had to win this. We had a little hold up with her in the spring so she’ll come on plenty for that. She got tired but still got the job done.

“These fillies we keep in training we’re always looking for black-type and she needs to improve again but we are on the right road.”

This was Pirate Jenny's handicap debut was having her third start on the back of a runner-up spot in a Navan maiden last summer and a maiden success at Cork in September. Additional reporting by Alan Magee
