Jimmy Mangan is looking to the future with Spillane’s Tower after he chased home brilliant winner Galopin Des Champs in the Punchestown Gold Cup yesterday.

A bad mistake four from home put the Walk In The Park gelding on the back foot as the winner skipped clear to record a dominant success.

The JP McManus-owned gelding was a dual Grade 1 winner as a novice and Mangan is hoping he can have a busier campaign next season after just three runs this term.

When it was put to him yesterday that the ground may have been a bit too good he said:-

“I’m not using the ground as an excuse, the best horse won on the day and that’s it. He’s a helluva horse, two Gold Cups and second in a Gold Cup.

“I’ve got a young horse and hopefully we’ll be back next year.

“The mistakes came at the wrong time but I wouldn’t think they were the losing of the race.

“Hopefully we’ll have a busier year next year. He went over to Liverpool but had to come back and he lacked a race really.

“He’s a young horse and I’m looking forward to him next year.”
