McCreery hails Murtagh masterpiece

Sun 30th May 2010, 15:09

Johnny Murtagh was at his brilliant best at Leopardstown today, producing Charminamix with a perfectly timed challenge to win the Grangecon Stud Handicap, for trainer Willie McCreery.

Charminamix, a winner under another excellent Murtagh ride at Dundalk a fortnight ago, was held up, made steady headway in the straight before eventually getting to the front inside the final furlong, to defeat Lord Kenmare by a length and a quarter.

Afterwards McCreery stated “Johnny gave Charminamix a brilliant ride there and he has found the key to him by helping him settle.”

He added “Johnny made the right decision to track Lord Kenmare and switched Charminamix off brilliantly - the horse is now enjoying his races much more. He’ll go for another handicap next.”
