Largy Star dug deep when rallying gamely to land the concluding bumper at Punchestown this evening.
The Gavin Cromwell-trained gelding looked booked for second when headed by Premier Division passing the furlong marker but refused to back down.
He fought his way back into the lead in the closing stages to record a length-and-a-half victory under Declan Lavery.
The 9/2 shot, a dual point-to-point winner, had been third over hurdles at Fairyhouse last month having been runner-up in a Naas bumper on his track debut.
“He’s some horse to stay and the bit of nicer ground helped,” said Cromwell.
“He just didn’t operate on the heavy ground in Naas, he found it tough work.
“Back on nice ground today he was very tough and stayed going.
“He didn’t jump particularly well the last day in Fairyhouse, he didn’t jump at all to be honest. He’ll have to smarten up with that but if he can do that he’s a nice horse.”
