He’s always shown me he’s good. From the first day he came into the yard he was one that I marked down as ‘he could be anything’. He’s doing everything right. The race fell apart and I don’t know what happened Gallic Warrior. I didn’t get a chance to talk to Paul yet. He’s so laidback in the stable and so laidback in a race. He does everything Mark asks him to do and you could run him over two and a half miles or a Gold Cup trip. I’ll have a word with JP and Frank and see what they want to do.

He didn't show up in Kempton (sixth in King George), the ground was probably too quick for him. He was never happy and I was never happy on him in Kempton. He's after showing us today what we always knew he could do, and he has done it. I was just a passenger, all I had to do was steer him. He's so clever (jumping), you just leave it to him. He's one of those horses that is a joy to ride. When they get a bit older, they get a bit cleverer and they know what they are doing. He was fairly keen here on his two runs last year over three miles behind Galopin Des Champs, but he has learned so much now. He's the complete package now. When I jumped to the front four out, which was a mile too soon, I didn't want to be there but I let him use his jumping. There's no point in taking him back. I knew jumping the second last when I gave him a little squeeze after it and he pricked his ears, and I said I had plenty left. Up the straight, you could see him after the last looking at the crowd and pricking his ears - there was plenty left. That was a helluva performance, both from Mark and the horse. Terrific, he jumped from fence to fence and it was something to watch. He just jumped his way to the front and Mark didn’t want to disappoint him, and he kept galloping. I was wondering would he stay the trip going at that pace, because they went a fair lick from the start. He stayed every inch of it and galloped right through the line. I think it was one of the best chases run in Ireland o

It was a hell of a field and he won very easily, he’s a proper horse. They went a good gallop and he just stayed with them and got his jumping right and coming off the bend I don’t think Mark was worried, he just needed to get over the last two fences and he did that well. It’s a surprise the manner he has won it and I was hoping coming here he was good enough to win it and he would win it, but when you’ve got Il Est Francais and Protektorat in the field, they are good horses and horses of a lifetime for some people. He was able to beat them like that, which is huge. Every day of the week, I think he would be the one to give Galopin Des Champs the biggest problems, I do, and he was in the Gold Cup but we felt it was better to bide our options and let him come to this race. He could be a Gold Cup horse next year and he will be a year older, we just felt at this stage of his career, a hard race in the Gold Cup if it turned up soft is not what he wants. That was the way our thinking was all season and JP was very pro that, we just didn’t want him to have a hard race in a Gold Cup, as sometimes that can ruin a horse’s career. I’m not going to talk about two-year plans after Lossiemouth, but I imagine that’s where he will be going next year.

What a race! I was trying to keep an eye on them all and I think it’s a testament to the race that the horse that tried to keep up with Galopin Des Champs, Grangeclare West, had to pull up before the last and he still ran on to finish third. I thought we were beaten when Spillane’s Tower came up alongside us halfway up the run-in so it just shows that he’s made that leap from novice company to senior company that he could pull out more. I love that in a horse that he could pull out a bit extra to get home. Mark said he took a blow but stayed on well to win. He’s over 17 hands but an athletic horse with it. He has a lovely temperament and true grit. It was a hell of a race, and I think all these horses are going to win big races between now and the end of the season. It’s fantastic that Punchestown have brought the race back to this time of the season and all these horses can recover in time to run around Christmas. I don’t know where they will go next but Fact To File and Galopin Des Champs could both run at Leopardstown. Some of the ones behind could run at Tramore (on New Year's Day).

I think Mark did a great job to get him settled and I think he will learn a lot from that race, I’m just relieved. It’s all in front of him and when Willie decided to go straight chasing with him I had no objection, it sounded good to me. It has been vindicated. That was very impressive, it was a Gold Cup performance potentially, but he’s been like that since the day he came into the yard. I thought he’d win the Champion Bumper last year, then of course JP came and beat us with A Dream To Share, but that’s how good I thought he was. The fact that he was a ready-made steeplechaser from the first day he came into the yard is why I skipped hurdling with him and I’m very happy we did that now. I think JP had a nice little wager for the staff earlier in the season on this fellow for this race, so he more or less made the decision. He’s a beauty of a jumper and he gave Mark a tremendous ride, I’d say it was some thrill riding him round there. He’s just a real gentleman of a horse, that’s what he is. I’ve seen the potential. He’s like a child’s pony in the stable, he’s got the temperament for it. You know the plan (for next season), he could start off in the John Durkan, then run at Christmas, then the Dublin Racing Festival and back here. That’s the bones of the plan, but he has to stay right and JP might have other ideas, so I’ll have to have a chat with him about that.

The race fell apart and I don’t know what happened Gaelic Warrior. I didn’t get a chance to talk to Paul yet. He’s so laid-back in the stable and so laid-back in a race. He does everything Mark asks him to do and you could run him over two and a half miles or a Gold Cup trip. He’s got the temperament to go with it, too, which is what you want in those three-mile chasers, he’s a very calm horse. I’ll have a word with JP and Frank (Berry) and see what they want to do.

He has Cheltenham bumper form from last year. He looks like a chaser, he certainly looked like one there, so we decided to skip his novice hurdle year and just go straight chasing,. Today is the reason that I hoped we'd be right. He's a horse I've loved since the first day he came into the stable. I think he could go the whole way, with a bit of luck — you need a lot of luck in this game.

That fella took all day to get going. He was one of the favourite horses I bought last year, I loved him from the day he came,. He does things a little more slowly than other horses but he got the job done. That experience today, especially what he did in the last 100 yards, will stand to him. I think he might make a half decent bumper horse before he goes jumping. It's been an extraordinary day, our planning department at home deserves all the credit for this, putting the horses in the right races and having them right. Between David Casey, Ruby (Walsh) and Patrick picking out different horses for different races and then just getting ready for the race, it's a huge team effort. Ben Delmar, who is our head travelling man, getting them all right. Getting the right numbers on the right horses in the Paddy Power is a feat in itself. I have to thank everyone, especially owners as without them we wouldn't be here. A huge thanks to them for having faith in us to have days like this.
