Weld doubles up with Mustajeeb
The Galway festival seemed to be taking on a familiar pattern after just three races with Dermot Weld having already saddled a double at Ballybrit following the success of Mustajeeb in the Claregalwayhotel.ie Maiden. Mon 29th Jul
He won a competitive Jersey Stakes last year, and ran a good race in the Breeders Cup. I'm delighted for Sheikh Hamdan as he's bred this horse and he'll be an excellent stallion for Derrinstown. He's put up a great performance against four Group 1 winners in that race. The Diamond Jubilee is the logical follow on for him. He's been working very well, and I thought this was the obvious race to start him off in. He's a Group winner over a mile but Pat has always felt that he's so much pace. We wanted to give a shot over this distance and he's answered the call.
D K Weld
He was a good two-year-old with a rating of 110, and I thought he'd progressed well over the winter. I'll have to speak to Sheikh Hamdan and Angus Gold but I will encourage them to run him in the Irish 2,000 Guineas. Pat didn't have to be hard on him, and that will set him up nicely for two weeks time.
D K Weld
.He's a nice horse. The original plan was to sit second as we thought Friendship would make it. Obviously that changed rapidly but he settled nicely in front and it was never really in doubt in the home straight,.
