Fabulous August continues for McConnell in Tramore bumper
Something Fabulous continued a good recent run for John McConnell when taking the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares INH Flat Race as the curtain came down on the Tramore August Festival meeting for 2025. Sun 17th Aug
Some Pretender gets the job done on debut
In the colours of Syndicates Racing, Some Pretender justified even money favouritism on debut in the Salthill Hotel Irish EBF Mares INH Flat Race. Sat 02nd Aug
After race at Tramore Sun, 17th Aug, 2025 (1st)
It's been a good month so far. She is a filly I pushed to buy. She ran a lovely race in her point-to-point, and she has a beautiful pedigree. She came from a good yard that bring their horses along at a nice pace. In fairness to the lads who have her, they stood up to buy her. We were disappointed in Galway. Things didn't go according to plan. They went very, very slow and she got lit up and then got badly hampered turning in. We just said in the ring afterwards that we'd put a line through it. To be honest, I'd say she was fitter today than she was in Galway. She takes a lot of work, she looked sharper, and she was a bit more streetwise today. We weren't going to run her for a couple of weeks, but I saw this race didn't have many entries and just stuck her in. She worked very well the other day and so we came here, and Finn gave her a lovely uncomplicated ride. I'd say she was idling a little bit in front. Pa (O'Sullivan) and Sue (O'Gorman) who we bought her off always said there is loads of improvement in her and that she is plenty green. I think that's true, and I think she'll keep progressing. She's a really, really nice filly. We'll go home and chat with the owners and make a plan. She does like that ground. We'll have to see whether we go and try nick a bit of black type with her in a bumper or go hurdling straightaway. This is the first job done anyway. She has a beautiful pedigree, and her dam is a half-sister to Mcfabulous. She's got good value as a broodmare anyway.
