Opera Hat's son Woodland looks smart
Woodland Opera looked like he might be a chip off the old block as the son of top racemare Opera Hat made a winning debut in the concluding bumper at Leopardstown this afternoon. Sun 25th Jan
Robbie said the couple of runs over hurdles have sharpened him up a lot,. He went three miles the last time so Robbie said 'I can jump out and make it and make them come to me'. I said you were very brave at the last and he said 'I didn't know how near they were'. I said to him 'if you'd fallen you were going to go from here to Carlow before you stopped'. We'll keep him going, I'm not sure quite where, as long as the ground is good. I haven't a clue where he'll go as I didn't exactly expect to win this. He'll get a break during the winter and will go out. I made him run all through the winter as a younger horse and now I'm getting sense. He'll go three miles on that ground because he wasn't stopping today.
Mrs John Harrington
It's great as there are a lot of the Coopers (owners) here today,. I probably got his trip right for the winter ground. I don't think he gets any further than two miles on heavy ground. He does go on it but I kept running him over two-and-a-half and he doesn't get it. Over the winter he'll stick to any two-mile handicaps or whatever. He'll have run out of his novice career now because he wouldn't go two-and-a-half at Fairyhouse. We'll probably find something for him over Christmas. It was lovely to be able to get into this race because he's rated 150 or something rather scary like that. I'm not sure where we go but we'll find something for him. He'll probably have to go to Naas like his mother (Opera Hat)!. It's great to get him back to winning ways and I think the trainer probably made a bit of a nonsense by running him over too far on soft ground. As he's gotten older he gotten stronger. He jumped well and he battled very well today.
Mrs John Harrington
When I rode him in Leopardstown I said to Mrs Cooper (owner) that he'd win this race and thankfully it's worked out. He loves this better ground and he had his wind tweaked after Christmas and it's made a difference too. He's seen it out real well — on heavy ground he doesn't quite get home. He was the one I really fancied all week. He probably doesn't get home over two and a half (miles) on soft ground but he does on that ground. He just made one mistake at the fourth last but other than that he was foot perfect.
Mrs John Harrington
He jumped well apart from the third last where they got their wires crossed. Robbie didn't want to go mad long and the horse decided to go mad long but he was very good. The plan is to go to Punchestown for the novice handicap over two miles five furlongs provided the ground is good. Otherwise we will have to put him in a few other races in case it comes up soft. It probably won't but you never know. The fact that it was heavy ground I decided to run him over two miles today. He moves too well for heavy ground, and wouldn't get home on that ground over two and a half miles.
Mrs John Harrington
I'd say he'll come on a lot from that, and we probably won't see him now until Christmas where he'll go for the Grade 1 (at Leopardstown) over two miles. At the end of the day he's going to be a chaser so anything he does over hurdles is a bonus.
Mrs John Harrington
