Defi Du Seuil will head off on his summer break and bypass the Punchestown Festival.

The Philip Hobbs-trained juvenile has carried all before him this season since beginning his campaign at Ffos Las back in October.

An unbeaten season which saw him destroy the field in the Triumph Hurdle was brought to a close at Aintree where he was not as impressive but nevertheless added a third Grade One to his haul.

His defection from the AES Champion Four Year Old Hurdle on Saturday week now leaves the race wide open.

Owner JP McManus' racing manager Frank Berry said: "He's finished for the season now.

"He's had a fantastic year, better than anyone could have hoped, and now we'll give him the summer off and a nice break.

"As for next year, it hasn't been discussed but I'd imagine he'll stay over hurdles.

"He's been great all year and he's earned a break."
