Tranquil Sea will now head to Punchestown

Tranquil Sea will bid to bounce back to form at next month's Punchestown Festival after his disappointing display in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham.

The eight-year-old went to the Festival with leading claims having won the Paddy Power Gold Cup over course and distance earlier in the season, but could only finish ninth.

Trainer Edward O'Grady said: "We were disappointed, but I suppose he's been disappointing at three Festivals now. He was disappointing as a novice hurdler in the Supreme, he was disappointing as a novice chaser in the Jewson and again this time."

The handler added: "For some reason the Festival hasn't been as kind to him as we'd like, but each time he has come back and run well at Punchestown.

"He won the Grade One novice hurdle there and he was touched off in the big novice handicap chase, so we'd be delighted if he could do the same again. He will probably step up in trip for the Guinness Gold Cup."

Stablemates Osana and Alaivan put up better performances to finish third in the Arkle Trophy and Triumph Hurdle respectively, and they too have other targets this season.

"Osana ran a good race again and having been second in a Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham as well, he obviously likes the place," said O'Grady.

"We had him in the Powers Gold Cup at Fairyhouse on Sunday, but he won't run there, and the plan would be for him to go to Aintree for the Maghull Novices' Chase over two miles.

"Alaivan has come out of Cheltenham in good form and he will probably go to Punchestown."
