Leading apprentice Coen bags Navan brace on Miss Sam Coen bagged a late double on the card at Navan this afternoon when Miss Australie claimed the concluding mile-six handicap. The Ado McGuinness-trained filly chased down Cala Gracioneta inside the final furlong to grab the lead. She was pulling away late on to record a comprehensive three-and-three-quarter length success, at odds of 16/1. The Belardo filly, a winner over a mile-and-a-half at Roscommon back in May, was stepping back up in trip today. McGuinness said: "This filly needs a drop of rain. She won in Roscommon, and I suppose she had slipped down a wee bit (in the weights). When I saw the rain coming, I sort of said, 'better chance'. She loves a trip as well. "In all fairness, this kid (Coen) is different gravy. He is very, very good. He has ridden a lot of winners for me this year and last year. He's a very nice kid, a real good kid. “I think he has gone three in front in the apprentice title and he doesn't do lights, so it is harder again for somebody like him to (win it). “We'll try and give him as best as we can as I'd like to see him win the apprentice title.
