Harry Fry is keen to run American in the Growise Champion Novice Chase at Punchestown - providing conditions are suitable.

The seven-year-old has impressed on each of his three starts over fences to date, most recently landing a novice handicap at Uttoxeter after sidestepping the Cheltenham Festival.

Fry is keen to test his charge at the highest level in Ireland, but he has a well-documented preference for an ease in the ground.

"American likes a bit of juice in the ground and as long as he gets that we're taking him to Punchestown for the Growise Champion Novice Chase," said the Dorset-based trainer.

"We said all along we weren't going to Cheltenham because the ground had dried out too much. I've no regrets about missing Cheltenham. We waited for the right ground and he backed that up with a really good performance at Uttoxeter.

"I was thrilled with his win at Uttoxeter and hopefully on his ground he's right up there with the good novices."

Unowhatimeanharry is another Fry inmate set to make the journey to County Kildare.

The JP McManus-owned nine-year-old has dominated his division for much of the season, but could only finish third when a hot favourite for the Stayers' Hurdle at Cheltenham.

Fry hopes his stable star can gain compensation in the Ladbrokes Champion Stayers Hurdle at Punchestown.

He said: " The plan with Unowhatimeanharry is to go the Champion Stayers Hurdle. We decided the course was just drying out a bit too much at Aintree so it's roll on Punchestown for us.

"It's looking like it will be a really good race and we'll try again on another day against the horses we met at Cheltenham."

Other potential runners for the trainer at the meeting include Minella Awards, Air Horse One, Drumcliff and Fletchers Flyer.
