Record attendance at Punchestown today

The five-day National Hunt Festival concluded at Punchestown this evening with record-breaking attendances and impressive Tote figures.

Today’s attendance was the highest ever at the meeting with 35,948 racegoers passing through the turnstiles, beating the previous best recorded of 34,370 on this day last year.

The total attendance for the five days was 127,489, almost 5,000 more than 12 months ago.

The Tote performed very well all week with the total aggregate for the five days coming to €4,416,559 compared with €3,620,117.

However the decline in turnover in the betting ring over many years continued with a huge drop in the figures at the Co. Kildare venue.

The bookmakers’ turnover was sharply down on all five days producing a total figure of &euro4,814,288 compared with €6,138,949 last year.
