Formscan By Mark Nunan - DINOBLUE has established herself as the leading mare over fences in the last couple of seasons and won the Mares’ Chase at Cheltenham for the second year in a row in March. She has performed well at this festival in recent years too, and is very much the one to beat if maintaining her form on this fifth start of the campaign. Second in the Arkle last year, Only By Night proved herself over this trip when less than two lengths behind the selection at Cheltenham, while Kala Conti was about to launch a challenge to the geldings when coming down three out in a Grade One novice at Aintree. %0A%0A%0A

She shows a real liking for this place. I thought Danny gave her a lovely ride. Whether she goes on to Punchestown or not we’ll have a look at the programme and see how things are. She’s a nice mare for the future and I think she should be well able to go out to three miles next season. I was a little disappointed with Champ Kiely, but I think he was having to avoid the loose horse and may have taken his eye off it.

Dinoblue was very good today although I was hoping that Allegorie might get her own back after Cheltenham but it wasn’t going to be that way. Allegorie (a dual Grade 2 winner) is in foal to Jukebox Jury so she’s retired now. Dinoblue looks to be getting better and better and hopefully we have her for next season. I don’t see her going to stud for a while yet.

She isn’t the biggest in the world but has a great attitude and had her ears pricked after two fences today. It looked like she wanted to stop with her ears pricked going down the back straight so Paul (Townend, on Kargese) went on which suited us grand, as it made for a good test of stamina. I ran her in a Grade One last season which knocked the edge off her at the end of the season, but she has black type now so it is great. We’ll go home and look at the book, but she deserves a little break now having had two quick runs. It is a long way to go before assessing possible Cheltenham options and a lot of water has to pass under the bridge before then.

I’m delighted, I’ve been wanting to have a horse for him (owner Brian Acheson of Robcour) for a long time and it’s a nice start. She’s a good mare,. She is genuine but she won’t go and win by two or three (lengths). She’s brilliant to jump and we got the result anyway. I don’t know where we go next but ultimately the (Mrs Paddy Power) Mares’ Chase in Cheltenham is the plan. That’s a nice start. The first day we ran her over two miles over fences we thought it was going to be way too sharp for her, but she’s just jumped so quick that she’s been effective at two miles. Two and a half miles won’t be a problem to her. There is a great programme for mares in novice company but it’s just not as good for mares-only. I think the next race is the Chich Fowler race in January (John and Chich Fowler Memorial Mares Chase at Fairyhouse).
